How to Use Regedit - A Free Software to Edit Windows Registry
Regedit is a tool used to edit Windows Registry. You can search, replace and modify registry keys. It helps optimize and clean your system.
The Windows registry contains security information and other important data about the OS. These data are stored in a tree-like structure. In the most basic terms, keys represent folders and values are name/data pairs. Whenever a value is changed, it is updated in the registry.
You can search for entries using the Find dialog box. You can also choose to see all items in the results window. If you have selected an item, you can replace it by selecting the Replace option.
In addition to this, you can use Set-Location to rename a sub-tree. This is especially useful if you want to save old settings.
In Windows 7, you can also load and run RegFromApp. It will allow you to copy and paste Registry values to another Registry file.
Using this feature, you can create a backup of your registry. If you need to restore your original version, you can do so with the Rescue Center option.
Another great feature is the ability to delete Registry keys and values. For instance, if you are testing settings, you can copy the registry key you want to test, change the value and delete the key.
Finally, you can create your own registry key by clicking the Create button. After naming the key, you can copy the value to the clipboard.
